CAN CITIES BE SEEN AS ENIGINES OF IMPROVED STATUS AND LIVELIHOODS FOR WOMEN? INTRODUCTION In the past women were seen as nothing more than child-bearers and housekeepers, only worthy of being their husband’s servants, unable to be financially independent. However, due to factors such as the progression of time and the urbanisation of cities it is no longer the case. Cities are â€Å"relatively large, dense and permanent human settlements†, they â€Å"also referred to as towns, urban agglomerations or urban settlements â€Å"(Beall Fox, 2009: 7). Urbanisation can most simply be defined as the process of becoming more modernised or urbanised. Because cities are more modernised than rural areas, cities are then seen as great points for accessing opportunities that will lead to a more improved standard of living. Within this essay the question of whether cities enable the status and livelihoods of women to be improved will be answered, as well as the factors that come with urbanisation (being: poverty and vulnerability) will be highlighted (from Cities and De velopment prescribed book-Chapter 4). Gordon’s functional health pattern was proposed and developed by Marjory Gordon. It is the method used by nurse to provide a comprehensive assessment on the client. Gordon’s functional health pattern is divided into 11 categories. These categories are a systematic and standardized approach to data collection. Each of the categories enables the nurse to determine the different factors of health and human function. These categories are health perception and health management, nutrition and metabolism, urine and waste elimination, activity and exercise, cognition and perception, sleep and rest, self-perception and self-concept, roles and relationships, sexuality and reproduction, coping and stress tolerance, and values and belief (Functional†¦show more content†¦The second is category is nutritional and metabolic. This refers to the client’s usual pattern of food and fluid intake, diet, oral cavity health, and weight loss or gain. The data collected is focu sed on the pattern of food and fluid consumption. This includes the types of food eaten, the amount, and the frequency. The adequacies or inadequacies of the nutrient supplies are also evaluated. This may help to determine the actual or potential problems related to fluid balance, tissue integrity, malnutrition, or other gastrointestinal problems. The risks in this category include blood sugar problems, impaired fluid levels, impaired organ functions and aspiration (Koshar, N.D.). A sub category for this pattern is risk for unstable glucose. The nurse would ask the client â€Å"How often do you check your blood glucose?† A nursing intervention for the category is for the client to monitor their blood sugar before and after meals. A conflict situation I had been in was with one of my closet co worker or at least I thought we were close. My co worker and I was always talking behind the store manger back when he wasn’t looking, but then a new assistant manager position came up and my store manger was looking at me to possibly fill the position. My co worker really didn’t like the fact that my store manger was looking at me so my co worker told my manger that I was making fun of him for a long time and he even that cameras to prove it. I would recommend everyone to use these steps to solve any conflict you might have with another person because you might not get another chance to make things right again. I really think when a person is using use the five problem-solving stages of conflict resolution, there should be nothing but a positive outcome in any situation. I also believe that if it doesn’t want out that you probably really didn’t want to give another chance to solve the conflict. The five problem-solving stages of conflict resolution gives you every chance to make up with that other person even with the last step is to learn and accept the fact that it might not work or you can just start the steps over .
